Cam Timing

(Adjust Lobe center)

To get the best result out of your  Turbo system you need to adjust the cams.

The lobe center number on R1 turbo should be about

105-107 degrees on intake and 104-106 degrees on exhaust.

Find Top Dead Center

(TDC)

Find the T on the right side of the crankshaft then you can see the marks on the camshafts

if you can't see the marks on the camshafts turn the crank one more lap

You have to find the exact  TDC, to get the beast result.

You need a dial indicator that you put in the sparkplug hole at cylinder 1 or 4.

Then you need a degree wheel, mount it on the left side of the crankshaft.

Make an arrow that points to 0 (TDC) on the degree wheel. Then set the dial indicator to 0

Turn the engine forward until the dial indicator reads 0.1 mm, note the degree on the degree wheel.

Then turn the engine backwards until the dial indicator reads 0.1 mm again, note the degree on the degree wheel.

In the middle of  this tow degrees you will have the exact TDC.

Turn the engine forward to the degree that's was in the middle.

If you have another degree than 0 (TDC) adjust the arrow to 0 (TDC)

Now you have the exact Top dead center (TDC)

Intake Cam

Now place the dial indicator on the valve lifters for cylinder 1 or 4:

Start with the intake cam. After you have placed the dial indicator on the valve lifter

make sure that the dial indicator is set to 0 and that the arrow is pointing on 0 (TDC).

Turn the engine forward until the dial indicator indicates that the valve has opened 1.mm.

Note the degree wheel (ex 10 degrees before top dead center)

Start turning the engine forward again until the dial indicator shows 1.mm.

Now it is 1.mm before the valve is closed.

Not the degree wheel (ex 44 degrees after bottom dead center)

Now the intake cam is finished

Calculate lobe center

(180+44-10)/2 = 107

The lobe center for the intake cam in this example is 107 degrees

Exhaust cam

The procedure for the exhaust cam is the same but you will get the

highest number first

(ex 41 degree before bottom dead center and 11 degrees after top dead center)

(180+41-11)/2 = 105

The lobe center for the exhaust cam in this example is 105 degrees
